Dear Friends,

Dance can be the most wonderfully engaging and entertaining of arts forms.  As we look forward to what is shaping up to be a record-breaking performance season, I hope you will come out to share the magic.

Over the next ten months, we’ll take four of our most popular ballets to the stage, kicking off the season with the romantic-comedy Coppélia at our free Ballet in the Park performances in August – this international co-production was developed with the Hong Kong Ballet in 2001 and it remains an absolute favourite.

Anastasia, which was ranked by one major US presenter as “by far the best program ever engaged in all [our] 30-year history”, will follow in October, touring across Ontario and also visiting Geneva, New York.

Group of Seven Nutcracker, last year’s big Holiday hit created in partnership with the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, will paddle its way across Ontario stages in November and December

From January through April, I will don on my dress and false eyelashes to play the evil stepmother in Cinderella -- this timeless favourite will drop its shoes from one end of the country to the other, from Sidney, near Victoria BC, to St. John’s, Newfoundland.

In addition to our full-lengths, we will present a number of contemporary works at our intimate Ballet in the Studio programs in Toronto and Halifax, including new ballet commissions. And for young people, The Emperor’s New Clothes will spin its invisible threads to the delight of over 15,000 elementary school students in Ontario and Atlantic Canada.

George Brown Dance is running several programs for younger dance students over the next few months, including the Student For A Day and Young Dancers Workshops And there’s still time to audition for the full time Commercial Dance Studies Program that starts in January 2010.

With a dedicated group of teachers and accompanists, talented dance students entrenched in their studies, a fantastic group of artists who love to dance AND more than 130 performances scheduled coast-to-coast, we look forward to seeing you at the ballet!

With best regards,

Bengt Jörgen
