The Moscow-born dancer competed as part of the Russian team, performing solo variations from Don Quixote and Le Corsaire. For more information, visit the show's website. Congratulations, Maria! |  |  |  |  |  |  |  |  |  | 2009 Visiting Scholar Lecture, Dr. Janice Ross The Visiting Scholar Program brings nationally known scholars to SF Ballet to lecture on a variety of topics that are meant to educate and inspire balletomanes of all levels and ages. This year, SF Ballet welcomes Stanford University's Professor Janice Ross, Ph.D. Today, February 18, Dr. Ross will present her lecture "Rethinking The Ballerina" at the Koret Auditorium at the Main Library, 6:30-7:30pm. Join us for a thought-provoking lecture on how the ballerina has been rethought and remade from the 19th to the 21st centuries, in relationship to changing cultural, social, and aesthetic agendas. Following the lecture Dr. Ross will sign her book San Francisco Ballet at Seventy-Five. Dr. Ross will also host the February 25 Pointes of View Lecture with Artistic Director and Choreographer Helgi Tomasson. |  |  |  |  |  |  |  |  |  | Principal Dancer Tina LeBlanc Announces Retirement After 27 years of professional dancing—17 with SF Ballet—Tina LeBlanc has announced that she will retire at the end of the 2009 Repertory Season. Performing in a wide range of roles from Juliet in Tomasson's Romeo & Juliet to principal roles in numerous Balanchine ballets, LeBlanc has also had roles created on her by David Bintley, Mark Morris, and Tomasson. As a tribute to her career and achievements as a dancer, SF Ballet will host a final performance in the evening on Saturday, May 9.
