Firstly, I apologize to Victoria for missing this posted question on the blog: "(Friday, 26 June 2009) Written by Victoria Fadenipo Im a ballet student with extremely flat feet and overlapping toes that prevent me from fully feeling my weight and alignment on demi point. So my question is what exercises can I do to improve my point. Would it be beneficial to see a podiatrist to talk about my overlapping toes and releve issue? "
Hi Victoria. I recommend seeing a chiropractor first, an Activator chiropractor if possible (www.activator.com). He/she will check out the alighment of the foot bones, the condition of the muscles, and will help you work to improve this condition.
Toe spacers that are made for use in pointe shoes should help also.
Working with the exercises in The Perfect Pointe Book (see home page here, and also the articles section in which you'll find exercises described), will strengthen your foot muscles and improve your reflexes for footwork as well.
A chiropractor will recommend a podiatrist if needed. Call a few in your area (or ask your parents to do so) and be sure to ask if they have experience with ballet/sports/fitness.
I hope you find this answer!
